Day 90: Coffee Time

Titles: Madame X-tra Strong and I'm a Monster Before I've Had My Morning Coffee
Assignment: Use dry coffee beans, coffee grounds or even liquid coffee to create something today.
Materials: #1 = photo of coffee in cup, PS on the reflection I discovered when snapping the shot while stirring.
#2= liquid coffee, pencil, pen, watercolors

Inspiration: #1 - I noticed the reflection in the un-retouched shot was a wraith-like version  of Sargent's MADAME X, so I added some PS to accentuate the figure.

Inspiration: #2 - You don't want to get in between me and that first cup, believe me.

Day 89: Pinata! (???)

Title: CAPTION THIS!!
Assignment: Make a pinata. Bonus: Destroy it!
Materials: Pencil, Pen, Watercolor

Inspiration: I REALLLLY didn't want to make an effin' pinata. So I took artistic license and painted a little cartoon instead, drawing from happy memories of Gary Larson's FAR SIDE.
This one is for Krystle, who shared another great 'art n booze' day with me. :-)

Day 88: Office Spaced

Title: White Out Warlock

Assignment: Make something only using stuff from your workplace or office. if you don't work, use items that are usually found in an office.

Materials: Sticky note, sharpie, white-out.

Inspiration: Initially I pulled out a pile of supplies and played around with building something out of it all, but it felt too much like other stuff I'd done. I then decided to simply paint with the white out and see what or who appeared.

Day 87: Candles

Title:  Melt Down
Assignment: What can you do with a candle? Try using the drips from a lit candle to make an image, or use an unlit one to draw. Or as always, feel free to experiment.

Materials: Sculpy, melted wax from two different candles.

Inspiration: Both HOUSE OF WAX and more recently, a great scene in GAME OF THRONES when one of the baddies gets a 'crown' of melted gold - the hard way.

I first made the golfball-sized skull out of Sculpie (SKULLpy! HA! ahem...) fired it, then dripped the wax over it in stages and molded it a bit more into what you see, adding the pupil dots for a little more personality.

Day 86: Decorate Dessert

Title: Chouxsteroid

Assignment: Decorate a cake, pie or cookie.
Materials: homemade choux bun, spun sugar, whipped cream, black plate and board, powered sugar, fork for outline
Inspiration: I love cooking, but baking is a bete-noire of mine, due to the diabolically unpredictable nature of my oven. I decided to tackle two things I'd never done before, choux buns and spun sugar art.
Rather proud of how this came out, and how nice it tasted!

Day 85: Work with Words

Title: Flotsamandjetsamonster

Assignment: Make an image with just words or letters. You can cut them from magazines, draw them yourself or print out words on a computer to work with.

Materials: Driftwood and found objects on the tide flats on Camano Island, a bit of PS to help with definition.

Inspiration: I took this assignment a little more literally than intended, I think, re-reading the instructions now after I got home. AH well! I was walking along the beach yesterday and loved the weird sculpted driftwood, and decided to just make the word MONSTER out of what I found. My favorite bit is the part of a jawbone I THINK is from a possum that  I  joined up with a  crabclaw to make the N.

Day 84: Keep it Clean

Title: Seasoap Dragon

Assignment: Use a bar of soap to make something new. You can carve it, use it to draw, break it into pieces, or even bubbles.

Materials: Black board, two pieces of soap, sponge, paper towel, PS

Inspiration: I started drawing with the soap, wasn't happy with it, so I went to wash it off to start over again, and noticed the nice patterns the sponge made on the black with the suds. Experimented with taking away suds to create an image, then added in definition with the soap bar and a little PS.
